An American economist and philosopher, a disciple of Ludwig von Mises and heir to the Austrian School. He took liberalism to the extreme: for him, even security and justice could be provided by private companies. He was a tireless activist and one of the founding figures of the modern libertarian movement in the United States.
Core ideas
The State sustains itself through compulsory taxes, which amount to a form of theft
No one should initiate aggression against another's person or property
Services such as security and courts could be offered on the free market
The tradition: Anarcho-capitalist
Anarcho-capitalism proposes abolishing the State and handing every service, including security and justice, over to the market. Rothbard is the main architect of this current.
